Expressions are developed with Maya's expression editor, and allow scripts to trigger while Maya evaluates the scene file at each change in time, to simulate complex behaviors or perform other useful tasks. Maya also offers an expression language that is a super-set of MEL, and results in nodes that are executed as part of Maya's dependency graph. You will see that Autodesk Maya does not provide default setting to save your model or part.

All the current object’s caches appear as clips in the track view. Python was added to Maya as an alternative to MEL in Maya 8.5. In the Trax Editor, select List > Load Selected Characters. Mel is primarily a language meant to journal the Maya session, thus lacks many advanced features such as associative arrays. MEL is fairly limited compared to mainstream scripting languages. The majority of standard Maya commands are default MEL scripts, saved in the Maya Program Files directory. It provides some memory management and dynamic array-allocation, and offers direct access to functions specific to Maya.

For more information on these techniques see Polygon modeling overview.MEL is syntactically similar to Perl and Tcl. Polygon meshes can be created using a variety of techniques. You create your 3D polygonal models using polygon meshes.

When many faces are connected together they create a network of faces called a polygon mesh (also referred to as a polyset or a polygonal object). Maya also supports the creation of polygons with more than four sides (n-gons) but they are not as commonly used for modeling.Īn individual polygon is commonly called a face, and is defined as the area bounded by three or more vertices and their associated edges. When you model with polygons you usually use three-sided polygons called triangles or four-sided polygons called quadrilaterals (quads). You select and modify polygons using these basic components. Vertices, edges, and faces are the basic components of polygons. The interior region of the polygon is called the face. New solutions in Maya, 3ds Max, Bifrost, and Arnold are now available.

Polygons are straight-sided shapes (3 or more sides), defined by three-dimensional points (vertices) and the straight lines that connect them (edges). Autodesk has introduced a series of feature-loaded updates to its portfolio of 3D tools for artists working in the film, television, games and design visualization industries.
